What is a Super Body?

What do I mean by achieving a “Super Body”?

What I don’t mean is having the build of a bodybuilder, or having six-pack abs, or bulging pectorals or biceps. What I mean is having a body that enjoys optimal metabolic health by managing how much fat you carry and where it is located, while also managing muscle mass and quality, phenomena that allow you to have ideal blood sugars, blood pressure, agility, strength, independence, and longevity.

Modern people are now experiencing a combination of factors that are rapidly eroding body composition, i.e., the quantity and location of fat and muscle, with serious potential consequences for health. By working to restore a Super Body, we therefore work to:

  • Restore muscle lost with aging—Recall that we lose 30% of muscle mass after the peak achieved in our 20s and early 30s. If you engaged in any form of calorie reduction (diet, pharmaceuticals such as GLP-1 agonists, or a bariatric procedure); had a period of prolonged bedrest or illness; were prescribed a steroid; have had struggles with cortisol, e.g., prolonged stress and sleep struggles, you have likely lost more than 30% of muscle mass. Greater loss of muscle is associated with increased risk for frailty, loss of independence, institutionalization, increased risk of cognitive decline and dementia, and earlier death. We therefore aim to regain lost muscle using unconventional strategies.

  • Minimize abdominal visceral fat—Subcutaneous fat, i.e., fat just below the skin surface on the chest, limbs, buttocks, etc. is an aesthetic issue and perhaps a burden to weight-bearing joints. But it’s abdominal visceral fat that is the source of metabolic distortions that include insulin resistance, higher blood glucose and blood pressure, body-wide inflammation, male feminization (enlarged breasts and hips), increased risk for many cancers. We therefore work to minimize abdominal visceral fat using unconventional methods that include optimizing cortisol and oxytocin status.

It is less about appearances and more about optimization of metabolic health to keep you walking, biking, socializing, and enjoying an active and vigorous life for as long as possible. This is not part of the narcissistic biohacking or longevity movements but a path to maintaining vigor and health for decades beyond the time when your peers have submitted to canes, wheelchairs, and assisted living centers.
