I am not smart enough yet to read the diagrams of the MTHFR and related pathways and fully understand it, but looking at a few, I see they often mention purine synthesis.  e.g.:

https://www.dietvsdisease.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/folic-acid-metabolism.png

I know excess purines are related to higher levels of uric acid.  Gouty arthritis is something that runs in the family and something I am currently dealing with.  I take 200-300mg of allopurinol per day (depending-- I use a meter every day).

I did some google searching on homocysteine and gout and found that gout patients usually have elevated levels of homocysteine, e.g.:

https://www.medpagetoday.com/meetingcoverage/eular/20787

I am wondering if there is a relationship between the MTHFR variant that causes mal-absorbtion of folate & b12, and hyperuricemia / gout.

I suppose I should get my homocysteine, b12, folate & MMA tested soon.  $112 total at life extension.

I am wondering if I do in fact have this MTHFR variant problem, if I correct it with methyl folate, methyl b12 and other b vitamins, if the hyperuricemia might lessen.
