Weight Loss Stall?

Edition: 2018-03-08

This article is to support answering this FAQ on the Forum and Blogs. It also applies to unexpected weight regain.

For anyone who is an Undoctored Inner Circle (UIC) or Cureality member be sure to see, in the Cureality view of the site, Track:
Seeking Your Cure » Weight Loss » Stalled Weight Loss (Members only)

UIC doesn’t have a specific Protocol on this yet, but a video series is available here:
Breaking Through Stalled Weight Loss: Part 1 (Members only)
Breaking Through Stalled Weight Loss: Part 2 (Members only)
Breaking Through Stalled Weight Loss: Part 3 (Members only)

Books:
Undoctored covers the weight plateau topic on pages 317-321 (print edition).
Wheat Belly Total Health, and
Wheat Belly 10-Day Grain Detox have similar sections.

For all readers, several Blog posts cover the usual suspects:
  1. OTC and prescription drugs
  2. failure to increase healthy fat intake
  3. dairy (for some people)
  4. uncorrected thyroid
  5. excess net carbs
  6. sleep hygiene
  7. stress and/or adrenal dysfunction
  8. dysbiosis
  9. aggravated insulin resistance

And I have some further reference information here:

Undoctored Blog video: DIY Thyroid (part 1, Public)
Undoctored Blog video: DIY Thyroid, Part 2: Lab Interpretation (Public)
Undoctored Blog video: DIY Thyroid, Part 3: Thyroid Hormone Replacement (Public)

If you do all of the above (or think you have), and stall/gain is still an issue, be sure to double-check your
Omega 6 linoleic acid intake (Public).
An Undoctored Inner Circle member found that to be an issue in his case.

What’s Not on the List

…of usual suspects:

  • Lack of Exercise:
WB Blog: Don’t exercise to lose weight
Exercise is extremely valuable for overall health, but is spectacularly inefficient for weight loss per se. Exercise requires a discouraging level of effort per calorie. Exercise promotes appetite. Exercise replaces fat with muscle; muscle is denser than fat; scale may not move. Some exercises are dangerous to joints in the seriously overweight. Recent science says that conventional wisdom about TEE is incorrect.

  • Excess fat consumption:
Excess net carbs stall or reverse weight loss. Excess protein (well above of what’s needed to build and maintain muscles, or in the form of soy protein supplements, and, for some, whey protein) can also interfere with weight loss. Excess fat intake is the least likely macronutrient to interfere with weight loss. Most people simply don’t want to eat enough fat for it to become a problem.

For a very few people with arcane metabolic problems, total caloric intake might need some attention, but first, all the usual suspects need to be ruled out.
